Hundreds Learn About SBT in Schools — Plus New California Laws and Open Board Positions

A back-to-school CEU event with Clair Egan reached more than 100 practitioners. Plus a new state ban on prone restraint and a CalOSHA workplace violence prevention rule schools need to implement.

Hundreds learn about SBT in schools

The BAESIG back-to-school CEU event on September 26 featured Clair Egan from FTF Consulting, giving school practitioners an overview of the Practical Functional Assessment and Skill-Based Treatment for problem behavior. Dr. Egan connected both the why and the how of supporting students with behavior needs in schools.

If you missed it, you can watch the recording on BehaviorLive.

New laws going into effect this school year

Prone restraint prohibition (SB 483)

The new law SB 483 amends education code to include a prohibition on prone restraint — including prone containment — for all students, including those with disabilities. Education code already prohibits specific types of seclusion and restraint.

CalOSHA workplace violence prevention

Starting July 1 of this year, CalOSHA requires all workplaces — including schools — to:

  1. Track all workplace violence incidents
  2. Use that data to create a violence prevention plan
  3. Train employees on violence prevention

For more, see the CalOSHA guide.
